We firmly believe that access to electricity paves the way to better education, healthcare and economic development. It leads to a brighter future, life choices and opportunities that many people in Haiti still lack. When combined with the right tools, access to electricity broadens horizons and gives a chance to all to pursue their dreams and change their lives. HADPRE works effectively towards these common goals.
Energy access in Haiti is scarce. Of the 10.8 million people in Haiti, only about 13.8% is connected to the national grid. Services are concentrated in Port-au-Prince, the capital and are often unreliable even there, with an average of 4 to 8 hours of electricity per day. For people living of the region, no electricity means that businesses cannot evolve; studying is restricted to day hours and that people are subject to the toxic effects of candles, charcoal and kerosene lamps.
