Education & Professional Training
Lack of access to skills training and employment are the biggest barriers to self-sufficiency in Haiti. Job-training programs, internships and part-time jobs are almost nonexistent in Haiti and as a result, a large portion of the population is hungry for work but lacks the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to succeed in the labor force. At the same time employers do not find qualified staff.
Disaster Preparedness & Response
Every year in Haiti, hurricanes affect the lives of millions of people by causing flooding and destroying property. The country’s vulnerability to disasters and its ability to cope with them extends to more than geography. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, which leave its infrastructure severely compromised. The lack of a functioning centralized authority and resources prevent the establishment of a nationwide functional disaster risk reduction system.
